Rigging on the Fly: improvisation for tops and bottoms Marceline VQ & Sving
This class will focus on the skills involved in tying and bottoming for improvisational suspension. Participants will learn the basics of creating an improvised harness and suspending with it as well as body manipulation. They will also learn the risks and advantages of this style of rope, as well as the anatomical aspects and physical skills involved in bottoming for it. Join Marceline and Sving and create some wild shapes and feelings!
Prerequisites: both tops and bottoms should be comfortable with suspension and should know at least one upper body and one lower body harness (ex, chest and hip)
Basic Physics For Advanced Rope – Marceline VQ & Sving
This demonstration explores the basic principles of mechanical physics as they apply to rope suspension. Topics such as force, torque, center of mass, and torsion will be discussed in theory and demonstrated in practice. We wish to give people language and understanding of the physical laws that govern their rope skills, and to improve their intuition about the physical scenarios they interact with when they tie.
Pre-requisites (suggested): have some experience with or interest in suspension
Sweet Surrender: Rope bondage for endurance suffering – Conroy & ShesANatural
When in a relationship with an alpha bottom, the power struggle is real. They have found that endurance suffering is an experience that deepens their connection, their relationship and reaffirms their total power exchange dynamic. They will talk about their own experiences with the choice to “Surrender” and how that differs from “tapping out”. A demo of what an endurance suffering session would look like with open communication throughout so that you can get a sense of what might be experienced and felt.
Hot Legs: Futomomo variants to fit any body – Conroy & ShesANatural
Tying them on the ground or in the air, futomomo variations are diverse and numerous. These leg ties are known for being unsustainable for some. This class will go over several different patterns that can be used for floor work and in suspensions. There isn’t just one way to tie a futomomo so let’s try some variations to find one that might work best for you.
Ending Scenes – Apikoros & Scheherazade
In this class, Apikoros and Scheherazade will discuss one of the most difficult topics on rope bondage: knowing when and how to end a scene. They’ll cover expectations, external structures, partner communication dynamics, and formal categories such as genre. Then they’ll help students devise short scenes and work to find endings that feel organic. You’ll walk out of this class with some new ideas of how to end scenes and a clearer articulation of what you value and what you’re looking for.
Pattern, Repetition, and Surprise – Apikoros & Scheherazade
In Japanese rope bondage, we spend a lot of time tying the same patterns. How can we use that to our advantage? How can we intentionally work with our personal history with a tie? In this class, Apikoros and Scheherazade will talk about the affordances of tying with set patterns and how to use knowledge of patterns to structure scenes to create spontaneity and surprise.
By the end of class, each student will have mapped out their associations and expectations with a pattern of their choice and identified both moments to focus on and options to use. Class will close with a discussion on the benefits and challenges of engaging in a practice that relies so heavily on going through such well worn and familiar motions.
Rope Handling for Communication – Apikoros & Scheherazade
Rope handling is not just about tying fast and efficiently. Every time someone lays a rope, sets a tension, or makes a friction is an opportunity to interact and communicate. In this class, Apikoros and Scheherazade will cover how to use touch, movement, and body manipulation to both tie more efficiently and to interact more intentionally during even the fiddliest of frictions.
Joint Locking and Loading – Sving & Marceline VQ
Add accessible joint and body manipulation techniques to your practice and explore these new possibilities in sustainable and restraining suspensions. Loading fully extended limbs will expand the possibilities that you and your partner can create with rope, and provide new challenges to discover together.
Stacking – Sving & Marceline VQ
Here we will discover creative redistribution of weight in suspension. Removing load lines and finding the new center of gravity within an asymmetrical body position. How to avoid abrasions while loading body weight over a moving load line.
